Confirmation is one of the three sacraments in the Christian initiation process, together with Baptism and Eucharist. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is “sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit” and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ, giving witness to the Spirit’s presence in the community.

Today, the four elements of this sacrament usually conferred by the bishop are imposition of hands accompanied by a prayer for the sevenfold gift of the Spirit; an anointing with chrism with the words, “I sign you…”; a slight blow on the cheek and the blessing, “Peace be with you” ; and a prayer for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
